Arthur L. Raynes

Arthur L. Raynes has been a partner in the firm since 1985 and was made a name partner in 2007. He was born and raised in Hudson County and attended public schools through high school. He graduated with high honors from Rutgers College in 1977 where he was selected Phi Beta Kappa.

 

Art received his law degree, with Honors, from the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. and became a member of the Bar of the State of New Jersey in 1982.

 

Art has been practicing with Wiley Malehorn Sirota & Raynes since 1982, first as an Associate and then as a Partner. He heads the firm's litigation practice and has tried cases in state and federal courts throughout New Jersey and in other states as well.  Since its inception, Art has been included on the Super Lawyers list by Super Lawyers magazine and has been selected as one of the top 100 lawyers in the State of New Jersey¹. Art's successful defense of First Morris Bank against employment discrimination charges was covered in its entirety on Court TV. He spends the majority of his time litigating employment, commercial, and personal injury matters.

 

For many years, Art summarized the latest developments in the area of commercial law in the New Jersey Law Journal's annual insert "N.J. Supreme Court Year in Review." Art also serves on the Civil Practice Committee and was the Chair of Employment Law Committee of the Morris County Bar Association.

 

Art is a contributing author to the "Library of New Jersey Civil Complaint Forms." The New Jersey Law Journal called upon leading attorneys to provide different litigation forms and strategic advice in various areas of civil law. They also provided checklists for civil practitioners. Art was chosen to provide the materials for the subject of commercial law. Most recently, Art co-authored “A Wild Fortnight in Employment Law” N.J.L.J. (2020).

 

Art created and for 31 years has run the Saturdays in Motion Program at the Somerset Hills YMCA. This award-winning program is believed to be the largest and longest running non-public recreational program for children with autism and their families in the country. On November 3, 2023, Art is being inducted to the Greater Somerset County YMCA Founders' Circle. To read a recently published article about the Program, click here.

 

Art lives in Somerset County with his wife, Pat, and three sons.

Speaking Engagements

Art is a frequent lecturer on trial practice, employment and commercial law. His recent speaking engagements have included seminars to the Morris County Bar Association on employment law, to the National Business Institute on Evidence and Advanced Trial Skills, and to the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education on employment matters and trial practice.
